Capel Wolves was founded by Alan Evans, son Dave Evans and Dave Whitfield.
South West Hall of Famer Alan Evans who played for Wolvehampton Wanderers as a youth was playing for Busselton prior to moving to Capel.
We hope to get more history from these people to fill out their record.
Capel Soccer Club - HistoryCompiled by Dave Whitfield
The club was formed in 2002 by David Whitfield, David Evans and Alan Evans. The club received further assistance by Dallas Millward and Shay (??)
The inaugural club positions were - Alan Evans - President, David Evans - Treasurer and David Whitfield - Secretary
First Men's coach - David Whitfield. (I believe we managed to win 5 league – 3rd Div - games in the first season.)
A women's team was nominated in 2003 and the first coach was, again - David Whitfield (I have vague recollections of Dallas Millward taking on the men's coaching in 2003 but not 100% sure)
Club Colours: Green and White Shirt, white shorts and white socks. (Based on the Celtic club strip green and white “hoop” strip to limit clashes with existing clubs!)
How and why was Capel formed?
Having played for Busselton for 2 years and taken an involvement on the SWSA board I was convinced that the Association needed to "grow" in the region to develop the sport further.
I was previously living in Peppermint Beach Grove and working in Donnybrook at the time and on my daily commute had noticed that the Capel Recreation Ground had some basic facilities and wasn’t being used during the winter period. After discussing the idea with David and Alan Evans we decided to advertise in late 2001 for interested players to see if we could form a club.
Seeing enough initial interest we pursued the formation of the club and nominated our first men's team in 2002. I do remember that we nominated the first mens team in the 2002 season with only 6 players on the books!
Further interest from the women grew during the year and we quickly nominated the first senior women's team in 2003.
The clubs has continued to develop since then with new sports pavilion being constructed in 2012.
Other items of note.
The club is now known as the Capel “Wolves”
The 2013 men’s team was coached by Angus Hutton, who started out in the first year of formation as a young 12 year old.
Gemma Sarchet played for the men’s team in 2002 as there was no women’s team available at the time.
